okay so i'll start this one off.
I've been smoking on average 20 cigarettes a day for the last 29 years and today I saw a billboard advertisement and i turned my head and facing fact hit me. blood is my weakness and I know I am poisoning my blood i have known for a long time but what i see as a consequence is white batches of skin and they look quite innocent but that congealed blood dripping out of a cigarette filter is whats going on inside my body. When i got home i googled to see if there was a tv advertising campaign and the dirty blood pumping through the brain already started effecting me a few weeks ago. My brain tingles sometimes and its quite scary i thought i was having a mini stroke at the time i had a pain in my side of my neck and i couldn't move my head from side to side. but it wore off but i still get cramps in my neck. I know i should go to the doctors and get checked out but its easier said than done. I have an irrational fear of needles and general antithetic. so if a doctor says i need an operation there is no way i would make it to the hospital and i also have a fear of dying so i'm stuck in a bit of a predicament regards to surgery, hospitals and doctors. I am not going to do this cold turkey that ridiculous i'm addicted to nicotine and the poisonous chemicals. I have an e-cig so i can at least supress the nicotine withdrawal, the chemical one is hard. this is why i think i will need to smoke one real cigarette a day not every day only if i need to and i will know if i need to. thanks for reading. any advice is welcomed.

Well done and good luck with this. For what it's worth, the east I did it was too set small goals and keep moving the goal posts. Eg. Only smoke outside, only take one cig to work for the end of the day, don't let my kid see me smoke, two a day first thing last thing... The longest part was the three years where I would allow myself a packet for a night out (which was a rate occurrence) and to smoke a few with friends for coffee. That was the hardest bit to shake off but I don't even think about it now. Its probably not a method everyone takes to but it worked for me.
If your health is worrying you, the docs putting your mind at ease might actually help with your giving up in the end. Xx

All the best for everyone trying to give up - I've never been a smoker so not had to go through what you're going through, all I can offer is words of encouragement, best wishes and support (much like what all you lovely ladies have been doing for me)
Xxx

this was emailed out to us at work today, and I thought of you de...
Top 5 tips for stopping (Barnsley Stop Smoking Service)
• Collect all your old cig but ends and store them in an empty jam jar with water in-whenever you fancy a cig take a sniff and this will definitely put you off!
• Save the money you earn from stopping smoking. Give it to somebody to save or put it in a bank account. • Keep yourself busy for 5 minutes until the craving passed!
• If you get stressed count to 10 slowly, taking deep breaths. This will help you relax and to cope better with your cravings.
• Wrap your cigarettes in sticky tape-if you get the urge to smoke by the time you break into the packet your cravings will not be as strong.

thanks. you do know that was written by a non smoker don't you. Nicotine is more addictive than heroin. Hence why I am not giving up nicotine just the 4000 chemicals. I am reading about the chemicals now just to drum it in. What's in a cigaretteI actually think tobacco products should be banned. There is some pretty horrific stuff in there. It if was present in food or drink health and safety would have afield day. They did over horse meat let alone arsenic in a spag bol. The UK's a bit backwards. The government want to take all the logo's off the packets how about list all the chemicals instead. Acrolein is used in chemical weapons. Who knew that? Anyway day 1 is a breeze it always is. I've got my liquid nicotine, so I won't be pulling my hair out or verbally abusing fellow drivers just yet.

Still feel on edge and i can't shake this sadistic streak. Concentration is crap, my mind keeps wondering else where. Apparently this is normal. Not happy right now.

I agree DE, listing the chemicals would probably do more good than the current horrible images on the packs. I really can't give up at the moment, but wish you the best of luck. I used nicotine patches last year and they were OK, but my mind has to be in the right place and I'm too reliant on them at present. Lots of people swear by the e cigs - keep going!

I quit a couple of years ago now, and I really do believe that if I could do it, anybody can. I know it's not easy but keep going. Do whatever it takes to get you through the craving, it truly does get easier as time goes on.

I am not actually quitting. I'm still a smoker, i just don't smoke tobacco. wasn't too bad today. i got my concentration back. I'm not too pleased with what i had to do to get it back. i will try something different tomorrow if i have to. sniffing tobacco soothes me as well. which is nice because i can carry my tin around and i am not tempted. i really notice other smokers thought they fcuking stink. worse than the ones who don't wash. I might even start getting my taste buds back soon. that should be interesting. lol!

Finished my first bottle of e-juice. Was okay now I've moved onto a strawberry flavoured one its nice but not too sweet.
I've had a few really strong cravings this week drove me a little loopy but i struggled through.
Good thing is i am repulsed by the taste of smoke. I tried some premium juice which is he closest thing to real cigs and i nearly threw it back at the girl. Smokers aren't nothing me too much i just wind down the window and try not to pull funny faces.

I have no idea what you're on about DE, but well done you on the 10 days and 218 cigarettes avoided! Spend the money saved on something that you really want. My ex bought herself a tankful of tropical fish but I'm sure you can do better than that

I smoke one of these. It's called an electronic cigarette (e-cig)
just below the drip tip (the little black thing) is a tank and you fill the tank with prescription grade liquid nicotine and it comes in lots of different flavours and strengths. I'm starting off on the high one and i'll slowly wean myself off onto zero nicotine.
hope this has made it clearer. it is a new world and I am just getting used to it myself. if I start blabberling on about ohm's and voltage output then you really will get confused. I've found a chart so I am learning the sweet spots ( optimal burning temperature) there are two types of e-liquid the PG which I smoke is polythene glycol 100% synthetic and VG which is vegetable glycerine. both are gold in colour. but they do taste different. PG gives you a 'throat hit' replicates the same sort of hit you get from a cigarette but without the feeling, or raised heart beat, blood pressure and all that jazz. VG doesn't come in many flavours and burns out the wicks quicker.

getting set up has been quite expensive. £22 for the battery. mines got a voltage changer on it. £10.40 for the tank it comes with 3 wicks ( you can't see it in the picture but there is a wick in the tank) those need to be changed monthly and my e-juice is £4.90 for 10ml I started my second bottle today so that lasted me 10 days. darn sight cheaper than a packet of baccy.
Money saved? I have had a savings account since I was 11 and I've never used it. This is the first year of my life where I can if I choose to actually save. I've got to put 2k aside for my future plan and then I need to save to pay my tax bill and we'll just have to wait and see what's left at the end of the year but I am going to treat myself to lots of thing this year. it is about time I was good to me for a change. I really want that cashmere jumper which is £178.00 but I need to be gooder for longer to deserve that.

some things I can't over come and nightmares are one of them. I've had 3 drags of a death stick and my head is a lot clearer. I might just make that one last the day or not bother lighting it up again at all. depends. but I broke. i'm not unhappy about it, I didn't sell my tobacco as I knew I would come across hurdles but I am pleased it just took 3 drags and now I can carry on with my day.
