i've got Vitiligo. The white patches on my body which are out of sight are fairly noticeable but the ones on my arms hands and wrists are quite small and only really show up in the summer when the rest of me is tanned but the ones on my head have caused my hear to go white and since i shaved my hair off i look like a dalmatian.

I always love De's honesty.
I know this thread is about hair loss but what about hair gain? Hormonal changes = granny chin hairs, hair texture changes, grey hairs etc. am I alone in this?

oh. I am really getting a patch on my chin that I have to check every day or two. It appeared quite suddenly over the last year and has really thick dark stubbley hair that sits under the skin. Although you can see it, you have to wait until it's long enough to grip with tweezers and then about a centimetre comes out. I also have a smaller section of about 4-5 hairs just above my lip on the left (but not the right) that I also have to pull every few days. I am assuming it's a sign of PCOS.
Also, I am noticeably grey and my mum has gone back to having no grey at all, so I get a lot of comments now about this and the fact my siblings aren't grey yet they are 7 and 9 years older than me.

i used to laugh at my sister and her hairy chin and 'tache but she warned me it would hit me after 30 !!! i didn't believe her cos i'm fair and have little body hair whereas she is darker and hairy
i managed to escape it until i was 35ish then noticed changes...i now do a chin patrol every day and shame of shame...bleach the 'tache monthly...it gets significantly darker just before my period

Your hair has always looked fab to me and I'd never have thought you had any trouble with it. I'm guessing that a shorter style has helped.
I seem to lose lots of hair since I had my son. My mother's hair is thinning quickly, particularly at the parting, and the males in my family do not keep a full head of hair for very long. I hope keeping my hair sort will help.

keeping it short will. my mums mum had bald patches and she in turn does, hence why she dies it blonde and keeps it cropped. I think its less noticeable the lighter your hair is. but its tough dying your hair from dark to blonde. I did it a few times it took 2 hours to do and I used to smother my hair in conditioner and it still had the texture of straw. And I got hairier after 30 and I've got a few more white patches on my head I don't even bother dying it any more I can't be arsed and my fingers are getting ridiculous its now up to the first bent/crease/knuckle joint. in about 5 years time i'm going to have white hands.

From your finger tips? My sympathies, I have troublesome skin but unlike you it heals with little scarring. What is your natural skin tone?

Yes from my finger tips. I know whats causing it and I have no intention of stopping I wouldn't be able to cope other wise. Ive got a normal skin tone I think, years of sunbathing topless the only bit which hasn't seen the sun is my arse and I am not in the habbit of looking at my bare arse in the mirror but its probably blindingly white and pretty scary.
