Hopefully the member who wanted the thread starting will give us some more details.

Wasn't me but I do remember a period of time when I started losing hair n it turned out I had an iron deficiency. Hair came right back with a vengeance!

it wasn't me who asked but my hair loss over the last year has been very depressing when my mum died almost 20 tears ago i lost a lot...a lot of it came back but not all... when i moved house a few years ago...it went again...some returned...some didn't since january it's been awful...i had the threat of redundancy hanging over me for 9 months and my relationship broke down and all this resulted in lots of hair loss... i guess stress in a big factor for me... i'm at the point where my hair loss in depressing me so much i want to just shave it off, get a wig and see what happens...i've tried a few wigs but they make me look old... i'm sure drinking to excess, too much caffeine and a crap diet aren't helping...

A friend at work has hair loss and after much fretting about it I encouraged her to spend 50 quid and get a consultation with a Trichologist and she started with certain shampoos and conditioners, then she had to cut certain stuff out of her diet. It was mostly stress related and the Trichologist examined the hair shafts to see what nutrients she needed to eat to help with things. She thought it was worth the 50 quid.
Who ever asked for the thread should consider at trip to a qualified Trichologist.

Thats good advice TQ, especially if they can pinpoint exactly what you need to put it right through their analysis.
My hair is very thin and fine, but its down to my underactive thyriod and coeliacs and improves alot when I remember to take my thyroxine. It improved massively when I started following a gluten free diet too and within 6 months or so was noticably stronger, so there is something to be said about deficiency in nutrients. I always thought mine was stress related, but I noticed that when I'm stressed I don't eat properly and forget my thyroxine, so I still reckon thats an important factor.

A friend of mine lost all of her hair at the beginning of this year - also thyroid related. I guess thyroid problems are very common in Hiroshima as most of my friends take medication for it.
As a very vain, image focussed person (her words, not mine), she cried a lot in private and put on an awesome front (and wigs) in public. Six months after it all fell out, and six months of stronger thyroid medication, it started to grow back and is now long enough for her not to wear her wigs anymore.

Sorry people! It as me who requested this thread. Life has been a bit all over the place lately so I totally forgot!
I've been suffering with hair loss since 2007. It started when quite a significant amount fell out over about a month. Some of it grew back but finer. But over the last 4 years the rate that my hair falls out has slightly exceeded the rate at which it grows back. My hair is now noticeably thinner and finer and I can't style it with any product as you can see right through to my scalp quite plainly if I do! It's got to the point where it's sent my mental health on a massive spiral again and i'm becoming somewhat of a recluse. I'm sure there are details i've left out, but it's 1am and i'm very tired.

well, today, i got all my hair cut off...well not exactly all, but most of it !
it's very short, sort of spikey pixieish...there are still big bald patches at the back but the daily stress of trying to style it in a pony tail to hide the baldness was getting too much and was making me more depressed ! so i'm going to see how it goes, see if if grows and wear my army cap !
i will post a pic when i'm feeling more comfortable about all this !

thanks harmonycrumb, i'm feeling a lot more positive today... i wore my army cap to work yesterday and sent everyone in my department an email explaining why i'd cut my hair and why i'd be wearing my cap all the time ! i got loads of lovely emails back and quite a few colleagues popped in to see me to give me a cuddle... every single person said how much my short hair suited me and how good it looked...a few people asked to see my bald patches so i showed them...and again, every one of them said it wasn't that noticable... i'm still wearing my cap but i'm feeling so much better about things...i even got my colleague to take my picture (without the cap) so i could change my facebook profile pic and my work intranet pic

I had a friend who had a bald patch, she went to the drs and he prescribed haemmerrhoid cream to put on twice a day (to her head not her arse). Seemed to work for her, she has a bit of a thinner patch still, but it stimulated something to grow. I on the other hand have too much hair! from Mrs DD
