having a not so good time with mother at the moment. three times in the last two days we've all had calls from her asking us to collect her from hers sisters'. one died when I was 7, the other before i was even born.
she's deteriorating rapidly. 12 months ago she was a sprightly, bright, proud woman.
proper heart wrenching stuff '-(

betty I am sorry to hear it. Is it nearing time when she won't be able to stay at home?
I find the Talking Point website very helpful - it's the Alzheimer's Society online forum.
Dad was admitted to hospital today as soon as the Community Matron saw him. Well, I say he was admitted, but he had to wait 6 hours for transport. He has been very poorly and sick, blood in it and an enlarged "compromised" liver.
So no PET scan tomorrow at Oxford. I am very sad as that is the best scan to show the doctors what tumours are active and where.

I really think his body is shutting down now.
He has jaundice, can't eat, blood sugar low. He didn't even react much to me saying about our plans for mum's 70th. I am really concerned.

Oh Keebs, it sounds awful. Maybe there's an element of him giving up too?
hugs and brackets to you, Homeboy and kiddo.

Thanks xx. I think I'm going to really need your support over the next few weeks. Basically I had a chat with the doc and the palliative team and we are talking weeks at most now.
It's almost a relief to know where we stand. We have started talking about the practicalities now and it is nice to have a laugh about headstones and buried treasure. I have become much closer to him over that shared dark sense of humour.

my thoughts go out to you keebo...it's a horrible position to be in but making each and every day count makes it bearable...my mum loved flowers so i made sure she had lovely flowers all around her for her last few weeks !

apparently my mum is more upset when I visit than when I'm not there.
It is hell to see her crying and asking where he is and if I am causing more pain by being there then maybe I should keep away. I think she sees me and thinks of him because I used to drive him up to see her.

I am reluctant to visit mum at the moment, because I am struggling a little. I've always tried to visit twice a week but I am not in the right headspace. I feel terribly guilty but I know it doesn't really do either of us any good by crying with her as soon as she starts.
